Finding Strength in Struggles
Starting something new often feels uncertain, maybe even intimidating, especially when challenges show up early on. The easy path rarely leads to real growth. It's in the difficult moments, when we have to push through obstacles and doubts, that we begin to develop characteristics like perseverance, grit, and maturity.
James 1:2-4 asks us to consider it “pure joy” when we face all kinds of trials. That’s not an easy mindset to adopt. When life gets tough, choosing joy can feel out of reach and maybe even a little unrealistic. Why would anyone find joy in the middle of pain or uncertainty?
But James points us to the purpose behind the struggles: “because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” These difficult moments aren’t pointless. Every test, no matter how big or small, is a chance to become stronger on the inside. When your faith is put to the test and you choose to keep going, even a small step at a time, your resilience grows. Over time, this kind of perseverance shapes your character and prepares you to face even greater challenges ahead.
God doesn’t allow difficulties to break you, but to help you become the person He created you to be. Growth doesn’t happen in comfort. It happens when you choose to trust God and keep moving forward, even when you don’t have all the answers. So next time a struggle comes your way, take a moment to pause. Instead of focusing only on what’s wrong or wishing it would all go away, try asking yourself what God might be teaching you through it. These hard seasons have the power to strengthen your faith and draw you closer to God, leading to a deeper, more genuine joy. One that lasts no matter what you’re facing.
Application:
Think about a challenge you’re dealing with right now, whether it’s something huge or more of an everyday frustration. Instead of just asking God to fix it or make it disappear, pray, “God, what are you forming in me as I go through this? Help me see the ways you’re using these challenges to help me grow in this season.”
