Strength in Weakness
It’s easy to feel like you have to hide your weaknesses. Many of us go out of our way to appear confident, capable, and unbothered. Sometimes we pretend we have everything under control when, deep down, we’re struggling. Weakness can seem like a flaw we need to cover up.
The Apostle Paul, one of the boldest figures in the early church, understood weakness in a deeply personal way. He faced some struggle, his “thorn in the flesh”, and despite asking God to take it away, he heard this powerful response: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
Let that sink in. God’s strength isn’t shown when everything in your life is perfect, when you’re feeling totally capable or strong. Instead, His power is clearest when you admit you can’t do it on your own. The times when you feel most vulnerable or weak are the exact moments when God’s presence and power can shine through the brightest.
Your struggles don’t mean you’re on your own or that God has forgotten about you. In reality, those difficult moments are chances for God to work in your life in ways you can’t even imagine. That’s why Paul was able to take joy in his weaknesses; he understood that every challenge was a chance to experience God’s strength in a real, personal way. True joy in suffering comes from admitting your limits, and trusting God to fill in the gaps.
Application:
Take a moment to be honest about a weakness you face. Maybe it’s a quick temper, anxiety about others’ opinions, or a temptation you wrestle with. Write it down. Instead of only asking God to remove it, try praying, “God, in my weakness, let your strength be seen. Show your power in this area of my life.”
