Staying Connected
Most of us have experienced the anxiety when our phone drops to “1% Battery.” Whether you’re about to send an important message, getting directions, or just calling a friend after a long day, everything comes to a halt when your device loses power. No matter how advanced your phone is, it won’t work unless it’s connected to its source.
In John 15, Jesus gives us a powerful picture, not of a phone and a charger, but of a vine and its branches. He says, “abide” or “remain.” The message is clear: stay connected to Me.
He also says, “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
This isn’t about a fleeting moment of happiness that fades as quickly as a low battery. Jesus talks about a joy that is steady and enduring, a joy that doesn’t depend on circumstances or temporary feelings.
Too often, we try too hard to make it on our own. We chase after things that promise satisfaction, only to find they don’t last. Real, lasting joy isn’t something we can create ourselves or find anywhere else. It’s found only by staying in a close relationship with Jesus. Through prayer, reading Scripture, and intentionally spending time with Him, we remain in His love. His joy becomes part of who we are, not because we earn it, but because we’re connected to Him.
Application:
Set aside 10 minutes today. Grab your Bible, open your app, or just sit quietly. Read John 15 slowly and think about what it means for you to “remain” in God’s love this week. Maybe it’s putting distractions aside, making more time for prayer, or just being present with God. Write down one practical way you can stay connected to Him.
