Pilgrimage

DAY 21 OF 40

Week 4 – Day 21 (Friday)

Psalm 101:1-2 – Someone’s Watching

Maybe you looked at the title of today’s devotional, and it conjured up a little bit of paranoia. That’s not its purpose. Consider this: wherever you are in your faith journey, someone just a step behind you might be looking to you for direction.

Jesus was very mindful of the power of example. In Matthew 18:8-9, Jesus emphasizes the importance of our witness and warns that our example could cause someone to stumble. He tells His followers that whatever causes you to stumble is also likely to affect those in your sphere of influence and should be removed.

The psalmist says, “I will be careful to lead a blameless life…” and realizes that it cannot come from sheer willpower; it is only through God's power, as he continues by asking, “…when will you come to me?” Walking circumspectly is serious work, and we must rely heavily on the Holy Spirit's power to do so.
