Easter Reflections

DAY 8 OF 28

Just as the events close in, Judas, one of the twelve disciples, overcome by greed and, of course, the Devil, decides to betray Jesus to the chief priests for thirty pieces of silver. From the moment he gets paid, he seeks an opportunity to deliver Jesus into the hands of the Pharisees.

Judas was a snitch--someone who lets out the plans and intentions of another to cause them harm. Love for money causes people to do evil and hurtful things (1 Timothy 6). It blinds so that one would not see things as they really are, temporal and empty.

Judas thought the silver would be enough for whatever things he intended to do with it. But it did not deliver its promise. Instead, greed only leaves a man emptier than he was before, ruining relationships in its wake.

Judas's greed led to the Savior's death. But he resurrected, bringing true satisfaction to our hearts. Despite the ugly backdrop of our redemption, Easter is the story of a Savior who conquered not only death but also the sinful inclinations of our hearts. If greed is a temptation, Easter reminds us that Jesus is better; he satisfies more than worldly riches ever could!

Prayer:

Dear Lord, give me a faithful heart, free from malice. Please teach me to look out for the good of others, not their downfall, no matter the cost. Amen.
