FULFILLMENT
Monday morning we wake up early to beat the Monday morning rush hour traffic. When we arrive in the office, we get right away to see our email we left off during the weekend. Then we go to work, meet clients, attend meetings. Then comes Friday, We look for a place to be with our friends or co-workers and have a drink or two before heading home.
Life is such a routine. And sometimes we ask ourselves - is this all to life? What is the purpose and meaning of life? The purpose and meaning of our lives isn't all that easy to figure out. The questions before us is: What does it mean to have purpose and meaning? How do we determine what that is? What does the Bible say about the purpose of our lives? Consider ISA 43.7 which says that God has created us for His glory and for His purposes alone.
Our purpose and reason why we are here on this earth is only for His glory alone. Our purpose is to praise God, worship Him, proclaim His greatness and to accomplish His will. That is what glorifies Him. Therefore in this we find that God has given us a reason for our existence - a meaning for our existence. We are created by Him, according to His desires, and our lives are to live for Him so that we might accomplish what He has for us to do.
When we trust the One who has made us, who works all things after the counsel of His will (EPH 1.11), then we are able to live a life of purpose. Augustine said that "the chief of man is to glorify God forever." How the particulars of that purpose are expressed is up to us as He has bestowed on each of us gifts, abilities and talents that we can use all for His glory. It is for us to steward those gifts and talents He gave, and we have the responsibility to increase and create value out of those gifts.
It was given to us for our use alone, but it was given for us to serve others and bring others to the Kingdom of God. If all we do is for the sake of God's glory alone, that is true fulfillment!
