FAMILY

God has chosen the framework of the family to help us understand authority and His plan for our life. God instituted family in GEN 2.18. God brought Adam and Eve together and established the basis for our family. Even though Adam and Eve did not have parents, God instituted at that time the principle that a man and woman would depart from their parents and family unit to begin a new one. Each member of the family has roles and responsibilities.

Husbands (EPH 5.25-28) are to love their wives as Christ loves the church. Wives (EPH 5.22-23) are to submit to their husbands. Mothers (1 TIM 5.1-3) are to teach their children the ways of the Lord. Children (EPH 6.1-3) are to obey their parents. When we have a good grasp of the family structure God has established, we can get a better understanding of how God wants us to interact with one another and with His authority.

Paul taught Timothy that a family unit behaves with respect with one another. In the church, we are to respect and honor others as we would our families. Our family shapes us and is a critical factor in making us who we are. If we want our children to be respectful and responsible, then they learn that from a healthy family relationship.

Taking time to be with our family and build relationships with them is one of the blessings God has given to us and we need to receive this gift of family with gladness and joy.
