FRIENDS
It seems important to God that we are able to develop good friendships. We have several examples of these in the Bible - David and Jonathan, Jesus and Lazarus, Paul and Barnabas. The Bible describes true friendships in PRO 27:6 "Faithful are wounds of a friend..." We need friends who will have a positive influence in us, friends who are like-minded and with the same values as ours.
These are friends who will spur us on and who will help us grow spiritually. A true friend is one who will be honest with us even if it hurts, one who will tell us what we need to hear and not just flatter us, but there are times when we need to be straight about something, do or plan on doing. Friends are our accountability group and we should seek their advice. We all make decisions and our friends can help us with their advice in order for us to make wise and good decisions.
Jesus chose to have friends while he was completing his earthly ministry. For 3 years, they lived together, ate together, traveled together, celebrated together and even mourned together. In fact the friends Jesus chose were ordinary but real men and not those that are influential, educated and rich. That is true friendship.
We choose friends based on who they are as a person and not by their externalities. Jesus said in JHN 15.16 that a true friend will lay down his life for you. We are Jesus' friends and He laid down His life for us on the cross and bore our sins.
