Peace in the Storm

DAY 3 OF 30

Peace in the Storm

Jesus and the disciples are in a boat, and a violent storm breaks out. The waves are crashing, water’s filling the boat, and the disciples are panicking. Meanwhile, Jesus is… asleep. They wake Him up, terrified, and He stands up and speaks three words: “Peace, be still.” Immediately, everything shifts. The storm that scared the disciples into hysteria bowed to His authority. Storms don’t intimidate Jesus. What scares us doesn’t shake Him. He doesn’t just bring peace — He is peace. That’s why He could sleep during the storm. And when He speaks, creation itself has to listen.

The disciples were overwhelmed because they forgot who was in the boat with them. Many times our fear grows louder than our faith, but this verse reminds us: the same Jesus who calmed the storm back then is still speaking to storms today. His presence doesn’t mean storms won’t come—it means storms don’t have the last word. Jesus didn’t just quiet the sea; He calmed the disciples’ hearts. That’s what His peace does—it anchors us when life shakes.

I’ve had seasons where I prayed for the storm to stop but instead, God stilled my heart first. I realized peace wasn’t the absence of waves—it was the presence of Jesus in the boat. When I set my focus on Jesus, I can trust God to carry me through whatever situation I go through. I can have peace that suppresses all understanding just like Philippians 4:7 states. That shift helped me stand even when things around me were still rocky.

Speak peace over your storm today. Say: “Peace, be still” out loud in Jesus’ name. Let His Word calm your spirit even before your circumstances change. Don’t let the storm convince you Jesus is absent; His presence is your proof you’ll make it through. Trust His Word over the waves. One word from Him can do what your worry never will. The storm might be big, but His authority is bigger.
