Discern, Don’t Just Default
We often treat everyone the same, whether it's family, friends, or coworkers, but some people aren't safe or wise.
God calls us to discern, not just default into relationships. Boundaries are biblical.
Not everyone should have access to your life. And not everyone deserves a seat at your table.
We’ve been told “treat everyone the same,” but that’s not biblical. Jesus didn’t do that. He had crowds, disciples, and then a trusted inner circle of three. Why? Because discernment protects your peace and prioritizes what’s holy.
Scripture warns us about people who live in the flesh, and even more about those who are destructive and demonic. You don’t need to be hateful to be honest. Some people aren’t just hard to love, they’re spiritually dangerous.
The Holy Spirit gives wisdom to spot the difference. Are they teachable or toxic? Humble or controlling? Spirit-filled or manipulative? God’s people must stop enabling foolishness and start guarding their homes, marriages, and souls.
Discernment is not the same as division. God isn’t calling you to be suspicious of everyone; He’s calling you to be wise about who influences your life. Boundaries don’t mean you stop loving people; it means you stop allowing their chaos to be your normal. You can love someone and still limit access. You can forgive someone and still refuse to let them wreck your peace. Jesus Himself walked away from toxic people, and He had perfect love. Wisdom says: Not everyone gets the same level of access, and that’s not cruelty, it’s clarity.
Is there someone you need to step back from, not out of hate, but out of wisdom?
