Day 3: Do Whatever He Says
Scripture: John 2:6–8 (NIV)
"Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, 'Fill the jars with water'; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, 'Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.' They did so."
Jesus told them to fill the jars with water. Not wine. Water. And then take some to the person in charge of the whole event.
Think about what that looked like from the servants' perspective. The problem is that there's no wine. The solution Jesus offers is to fill containers with water and bring it to the master of the banquet. That makes no sense. If they walked up to that man with a cup of water when wine was what was needed, they'd look ridiculous.
But they did it anyway. They filled the jars to the brim. They drew some out. They took it to the master. And somewhere between the jar and the cup, water became wine.
The miracle happened in the obedience, not before it.
That's how it usually works. God rarely shows you the full picture before He asks you to move. He gives you a step. Fill the jars. Go to the place. Have the conversation. Start the thing. And the transformation happens as you go, not while you're standing still waiting for it to make sense first.
Mary's instruction to the servants was simple: do whatever He tells you. That's still the word. You don't have to understand it completely. You just have to move.
Reflect: Is there something God has been nudging you toward that you've been waiting to understand before you act on it?
Today: Take one step of obedience today, even if the full picture isn't clear yet. Fill the jar. Trust that God works in the movement.
