Day 4: Better Than Expected
Scripture: John 2:9–10 (NIV)
"And the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, 'Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.'"
The master of the banquet was confused. The best wine wasn't supposed to show up at the end. That's not how it worked. You bring out the good stuff first, then downgrade when people stop noticing. But what Jesus provided was better than anything that had come before it.
That's how God operates. He doesn't give you the bare minimum. He doesn't meet your needs with leftovers. When He shows up, He exceeds what you were expecting.
That's hard to believe when you're in a season where things feel like they're running out. When the thing you were counting on is gone and you're not sure what comes next. It's hard to trust that God's version of provision is going to be better than what you lost.
But that's exactly what this miracle is showing. The family didn't just survive the embarrassment. They ended up with something better than they started with. God didn't just patch the problem. He transformed it.
Whatever is running out in your life right now, God's answer to that isn't going to be just enough to get by. He's the God of abundance. Of the best wine saved for now. Of more than you expected.
Reflect: Is there an area of your life where you're expecting God to just barely come through? What would it look like to trust Him for something better?
Today: Write down one thing you're trusting God for. Next to it, write: "He saved the best for now." Let that be your posture today.
